Fuck that, it’s not a dichotomy. Let’s not act like mascara glues girls eyes so shut that they can’t read a word of Dickens or solve a trig problem. Let’s talk about how no boy has ever been asked if he’d rather get his Bachelor’s or get married; no boy has ever been told that he’s too handsome to run for office. So why cover up my tits so you can take me seriously?
Holy wow those uniforms are cool. (Reblogging to double Hank’s chance of seeing them, because this is a mash-up of his two favorite things.)
I WANT TO READ THIS FAN FIC SO BAD!
Madame Vastra and Jenny struggle with the Starship Enterprise. It was difficult, at first, to accept that the Weeping Angels had transported them forward - not back - and that they would never see the Doctor, River or Strax again.
The crew was welcoming. They had seen stranger things than mixed species marriages before, and their records of the Doctor were well archived.
When Wesley handed them their bundled uniforms, they expected just another pants suit. It took some alterations but in the end, they were pleased with the results.
They had each other. And that, in the end, was all that mattered.
I think it mean’t exactly what it sounds like. Daryl has a code of honor, a code of behavior, his own private moral compass that determines what he views as right or wrong, an injustice or a crime.
He initially left with Merle because he felt he had to. Merle was his brother, older, but arguably vulnerable and unstable in a way he no longer was. But most of all, Merle was alone. Leaving him out there while he got to go home to a warm, welcoming place with a nice bed, food, and family didn’t sit well with Daryl. It wasn’t right. And despite the fact that he wanted to be back home, with his family, he chose to go be with Merle because anything else wasn’t right.
I view his decision to kill the tank driver in the mid-season finale as another good example of this. The man surrendered, but only after his party killed Hershel and he personally drove a tank through the fences - shooting out the tower and walls, basically rendering the prison’s defenses useless and ruining their home. That was an injustice in Daryl’s eyes, and so, despite the fact that the man surrendered, he doled out the punishment he saw fit.
That is Daryl’s code. It is a code all of his own, crafted out of his own experiences, emotions, past and present, it evolves with him and will continue to do so as the seasons progress! Hope this helps!
I was looking at that Carol/Rick parallels gifset this a.m. and had this sudden sinking feeling, like “I should have known better than ever believe she actually killed Karen & David.” Her affect throughout that episode (until the end) was so cold and casual and matter-of-fact and THAT AIN’T…
I re-watch the previous seasons all the time ... And the question that is always on my mind is that why was daryl drawn to carol? ( not in a bad way... In a good way... Cuz carol is amazing) With him helping to find Sophia and he finding her behind those steal doors. Like you get my drift ? :) He I love your blog btw *o* it's beautiful *oi
I think a lot of things drew Daryl to her, but I think the first thing was her hidden strength. He never really interacts with her in S1 except when she approaches him about taking care of Ed’s body. He sees her stand up when all the other women kept away, take responsibility for one of her own (so to speak), and take care of the matter herself. He watches the woman he probably saw much like Merle did, “a little mouse running around, scared of her own shadow.” That mouse had hidden strength. She was hiding something glorious inside her, and he got a glimpse of that as she smashed Ed’s skull in.
Their next interactions revolved around Sophia. In the deleted scene that takes place between S1/S2, Daryl yells at Sophia to be quiet. Suddenly, the mouse became a ferocious mother bear, hissing, “You leave her alone!” Lori joined in, helping Carol silence Daryl’s well-meaning (albeit terribly executed) attempt at keeping them safe. I’m sure it made him wonder how many times Carol showed her fierce side to Ed when he threatened to harm Sophia, and how many times she paid the price for protecting her.
Then in S2, Daryl sees just how much Carol is capable of loving the group. She is always there, helping them find supplies to make life a little easier for the group (such as new clothing), cooking their meals, continuously watching out for a child who is not her own as if he were her own… Then when Sophia goes missing, she grieves in a way only a loving mother could possibly grieve.
Daryl, who had no one to miss him when he was lost in the woods as a child, really seemed to connect with this. He saw an emotion he never received as a child, that depth of compassion and love from a parent. Combined with the inner strength he had glimpsed by this point, he could sense the scared little mouse was more than meets the eye. She was without a doubt a GOOD person, through and through. There weren’t enough kind, self-less people in the world before the ZA. Now that the world had gone to hell and he had one of those rarities right in his midst, I’d say he couldn’t help but be drawn to her.
Just my two cents, anyway. <3 I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog, too! ^_^
